Before You Go
-
Preparing for your
Puerto Vallarta
Vacation
Cell phones- call your
provider and be sure
international
service is enabled
prior to leaving.
It can not be
enabled once you are
in Mexico.
Renting a cellular
phone is an option,
but for best rates,
you can have your
phone unlocked in
Mexico for around
$30 dollars and buy
a local SIM card.
World phones should
have no problem
working in Puerto
Vallarta.
Prepaid phones from
other countries
rarely work abroad.
Rental companies are
listed in the
Puerto Vallarta
Business Directory.
Bring small change
Tipping is customary
for everyone from
the man who carries
your luggage, to the
boy who bags your
groceries, and the
concierge who shows
you to your room.
Be sure and bring
plenty of small
change to hold you
over until you can
exchange your
currency.
Credit Cards
You may want to call
your credit card
company before
departing to let
them know where you
will be traveling.
This can avoid
unexpected
suspension of your
cards if fraudulent
use is suspected.
Phone Numbers-
Be sure and
bring
important phone
numbers
with you
such as the local
embassy, your hotel,
and airline- which
can require separate
phone numbers when
dialing from Mexico.
Confirm
Reservations-
call
rental agents,
hotels, restaurants,
wedding locations,
etc and confirm your
reservations.
In fact, call and
confirm twice.
If reservations get
mixed up during the
wrong time of year,
it can be
near-impossible to
correct.
Call your Medical
Insurance provider-
most
health plans do not
provide coverage
overseas. Even
those that do cover
the expenses of
international health
care, they often do
so through
reimbursement.

Customized
Luggage Tags-
Order
your luggage tags
ahead of time to
avoid lost luggage.
Paper tags often
disappear going to
Mexico.
Customized luggage
tags don't come off
and can include
additional
information about
health conditions
and return
instructions.

Puerto Vallarta
Transportation
Getting from the
airport and getting around in
Puerto Vallarta-
taxis are widely
available. Always
ask the taxi driver
"how much" BEFORE
going to your
destination and do
not assume he will
automatically
request the same
