Puerto Vallarta is basically
divided into two cities, where
the Rio Cuale (the Cuale River)
separates the modern from the
traditional. However,
generally directions in Puerto
Vallarta surround the city's
Malecon
or Boardwalk.
The street running along the
Malecon is Paseo Diaz Ordaz,
which runs through the 4
distinct neighborhoods of Puerto Vallarta:
Marina Vallarta,
Hotel Zone,
Downtown/Centro,
and
Old Town Puerto Vallarta.
Neighborhoods
beginning
from Puerto
Vallarta's
north end:
The Puerto Vallarta Marina
-
Marina
Vallarta;
luxurious condominiums and
resorts, golf course, yachts,
fine dining, art galleries, fine
jewelry, fine furnishings,
ladies gym, spa services, Mall,
Wal-Mart and Sam's Club nearby,
cruise ships dock nearby.

Puerto Vallarta Hotel Zone
- Zona Hotelera; luxury resorts
and modern hotels, area is very
modern with American fast food
establishments, modern grocery
stores, shopping mall, 3 mile
stretch of beach, palm tree
lined main street, begins at the
north end of the malecon

Downtown Puerto Vallarta
-
Centro,
Central - Main focus is the
Malecon or boardwalk, with
restaurants and clubs, as well
as clothes stores and fine
jewelry, plus souvenirs.
Plenty of nightly entertainment
happens along the malecon and in
the town square. Popular
attraction is the cathedral.
A few smaller hotels, and plenty
of condos.

Old Town Puerto Vallarta
-
South
End, Zona Romantica, Los Muertos
Beach, Romantic Zone; area is
not modern, cultural side of
Puerto Vallarta with cobblestone
streets, plenty of taco stands
and traditional foods, (although
Vallarta's finest dining is
found on Los Muertos Beach.)
Apts and condos for rent in the
area are expensive for the
trendy location. Lots of trendy
clubs, restaurants and
nightlife.
