Upon arriving via water taxi,
the first thing most people
notice are the surrounding
Blowfish curiously popping their
heads up around the dock.
By far the
most popular
neighboring
village of
Puerto
Vallarta,
Yelapa
remains a
quiet,
secluded
village that
could have
existed
exactly like
this 100
years ago.
Walking the
paths to the
village's
waterfalls,
you will see
wash basins
filled with
clothes of
the locals,
sitting in
the
freshwater
streams.
Chickens and
donkeys
walking
aimlessly.
Dog's too
relaxed to
lift their
head as you
walk by.
Water taxi's
to Yelapa
can be
booked from
Los Muertos
Beach in
Puerto
Vallarta's
Zona
Romantica,
or from the
beautiful
Boca de
Tomatlan.
Seeing
Yelapa is an
absolute
must for
Puerto
Vallarta
vacationers.
The
waterfalls
and streams
present
great
photography
opportunities,
children
enjoy
watching the
donkeys and
sea life or
playing on
the beach.
Horseback
rides are
available to
the
cascading
waterfalls,
and lodging
is available
at the Hotel
Lagunita for
overnight
visits.
They can be
emailed for
accommodation
rates and
availability
at
hotellagunita@prodigy.com.mx.
The Yelapa
locals are
friendly and
always happy
to offer
directions
for which
"path" to
take where.
The intimate
restaurants
are unique
and offer
very
traditional
Mexican food
on secluded
patios
beneath
umbrellas
and
surrounded
by jungle
foliage.
