The most
notable
attraction
in downtown
Puerto
Vallarta
would be the
famous
Malecon or
boardwalk.
Having
undergone a
great deal
of
construction,
the Malecon
now
stretches
from the
Hotel Zone
to Zona
Romantica on
Puerto
Vallarta's
south end,
and is soon
to be the
longest
stretching
boardwalk in
all of latin
America.
Along the
Malecon are
numerous
statues and
monuments,
used by both
locals and
tourists as
direction
points.
Probably the
most
photographed
monument on
the malecon
would be the
famous
arches, Los
Arcos,
backed by an
amphitheater
where almost
nightly
musical and
comic
entertainment
is
performed.
Occasionally
television
broadcasts
take place
here as
well,
including
the Miss
Mexico
pageant.
On the
weekends,
this point
is also the
center for
socializing.
Locals and
tourists
alike sit
and watch
various
performances
along the
malecon,
purchase
food from
the local
vendor
stands, or
sit and
watch the
famous
Pirate Ship
as it
parades up
and down the
coast.
Across the
street is
Puerto
Vallarta's
town square,
where live
music is
performed
frequently,
celebrations
are
scheduled,
and every
Sunday
night, a
traditional
Mexican
dance
performance
occurs.
